Nikkei 225 Live Trading New Zealand: Monday 12PM / 1PM & Trading Research
Watch Matthew Jackson, founder of GradTraders.com, trade around the Tokyo cash-market open every Monday in the GradTraders £200 simulated-funds Nikkei 225 Challenge. In mainland New Zealand, the livestream begins shortly before 12:00 PM NZST or 1:00 PM NZDT on Monday, when Tokyo opens at 9:00 AM JST. That gives local traders one of the most convenient live viewing windows in the GradTraders international schedule.
This page brings together the GradTraders partners and trading solutions that make the most sense for New Zealand traders, while linking into our wider broker, prop-firm, software and trading research so you can compare each route properly.
Day 1 shows the Challenge from its starting balance, with entries, exits, stops, risk decisions and the result left visible.
For the longer view: the Matthew Jackson Trading Record keeps weekly results, replays and chart evidence together so the Challenge is not judged from one session.
The livestream starts shortly before a rare lunchtime Asian market open
Japan stays on JST throughout the year, while New Zealand changes between standard and daylight time. The Tokyo cash market opens at 9:00 AM JST; GradTraders starts the livestream shortly beforehand.
NZX regular cash-market trading normally runs through this window, so New Zealand viewers can watch Tokyo open while their domestic market is already active. The Nikkei is useful Asia-session context, not a signal for the S&P/NZX 50 or individual NZX shares.
The Challenge uses simulated funds, with its performance updated weekly on the website through the livestream trading archive and the Matthew Jackson Trading Record.
Research first, then decide whether a partner route fits
GradTraders provides education, research and general information. Some links below are commercial partner links, and GradTraders may receive a commission from an eligible account opening or purchase at no additional cost to the reader. Commercial relationships do not determine editorial order.
Leveraged products can cause substantial losses. Prop-firm evaluation fees can be lost, and simulated account sizes are not cash owned by the trader. Check current provider terms, eligibility and risk information before funding an account or paying an evaluation fee.
Plus500 is the clearest current partner broker route for New Zealand residents
For a New Zealand reader who wants a direct broker route, Plus500’s practical advantage is a user-friendly, self-contained web/mobile platform with a demo environment. It does not require an MT5, cTrader or third-party-platform workflow simply to get started with the platform itself.
The New Zealand route also has a clear local regulatory basis: the current agreement names Plus500AU Pty Ltd as the service provider, and the Financial Markets Authority lists Plus500AU Pty Ltd, FSP486026, as a licensed derivatives issuer.
Plus500 New Zealand
Why it fits: the proprietary web/mobile platform is user-friendly and self-contained, with a demo environment for learning the interface before risking capital.
New Zealand route: Plus500AU Pty Ltd is listed by the FMA as a licensed derivatives issuer under FSP486026. Verify the exact entity and current product documents during onboarding.
Current New Zealand risk wording: CFDs are high-risk, leveraged products and can result in the loss of your entire capital.
FTMO leads the comparison, with three useful alternatives built around different programme structures
FTMO is the first comparison for its mature 1-Step/2-Step evaluation choice and broad platform support; The5ers is the patient-scaling alternative; Funded Trading Plus adds programme flexibility; E8 Markets adds a newer single-phase product range.
At our 28 August 2026 review, New Zealand did not appear on the current published exclusion lists checked for FTMO, The5ers, Funded Trading Plus or E8 Markets. Eligibility, KYC, platform and payout-provider rules can change, so recheck the current terms before paying.
FTMO
Why it leads: FTMO gives New Zealand traders a mature choice between 1-Step and 2-Step simulated evaluations, repeatable Free Trials, and MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView platform options.
New Zealand is not on FTMO’s current restricted-country list. FTMO Challenge and FTMO Account use simulated trading environments rather than conventional New Zealand brokerage accounts.
The5ers
Why compare it: The5ers offers distinctly different progression paths, including one-step Hyper Growth, two-step High Stakes and three-step Bootcamp structures, making it useful for traders who care about scaling style as much as evaluation speed.
New Zealand is not in the current Forbidden Territories. GradTraders code: UR06YMJ — verify current purchase conditions before using it.
Funded Trading Plus
Why compare it: its current programme family includes 1-Step Express, 2-Step Classic and Instant structures, giving New Zealand traders several rule frameworks to compare rather than one fixed evaluation path.
New Zealand is not on the prohibited-country list updated 26 August 2026. GradTraders code: GRADTRADERS10 — check current checkout and programme conditions before purchase.
E8 Markets
Why compare it: E8’s current range separates E8 One, E8 Zero, E8 Pro and E8 Signature into different single-phase rule sets, which makes it useful for comparing drawdown and payout preferences rather than simply adding another copy of the same challenge.
New Zealand does not appear on E8’s current Forex+Crypto or Futures restricted-country lists. Verification and payout-provider restrictions still apply.
TradingView leads; journaling, NZD backtesting and regional VPS options add different practical uses
The software section is organised by problem rather than by affiliate relationship: TradingView for New Zealand market coverage, TraderSync for journaling, Forex Tester for NZD-relevant backtesting, and two regional VPS options for traders who need an always-on trading environment.
TradingView
Why it leads: TradingView has dedicated New Zealand market pages covering the S&P/NZX 50, New Zealand-listed shares, sectors and local market data alongside Nikkei and other global markets.
That gives New Zealand traders one charting environment for the lunchtime Tokyo session and the domestic market already trading around it.
TraderSync
Why it earns a place: TraderSync lets you record entries, exits, screenshots, setups and recurring mistakes, then review the patterns across a larger sample instead of relying on memory.
It complements the GradTraders Trading Record idea at an individual level: build evidence around your own process, not just the final P&L.
Forex Tester
Why it fits New Zealand: Forex Tester’s current historical-data library includes NZD/USD, NZD/JPY and other NZD crosses, while its historical news service includes NZD events.
That gives New Zealand forex traders a practical way to test rules around their own currency as well as broader ideas before increasing risk.
ForexVPS.net
Why it fits New Zealand: ForexVPS.net lists Sydney, Singapore and Tokyo locations and provides broker-latency comparisons. An always-on VPS can keep a trading terminal or EA running when your own computer is off.
The best location is the one with the lowest measured latency to the trading server you actually use, not simply the geographically nearest city.
FXVM
Why it fits New Zealand: FXVM lists Sydney, Singapore and Tokyo among its VPS locations and supports MT4/MT5, NinjaTrader, EAs and other installed trading applications.
It is a useful second infrastructure comparison when you want to keep several terminals or automation tools online and compare regional server choices directly.
Two tools to use before opening an account or paying an evaluation fee
Prop Firm Offer Finder
Filter more than 140,000 possible combinations by firm, programme, account size and conditions, then recheck current New Zealand eligibility before purchase.
Compound Interest Calculator
Model starting capital, regular contributions, time and assumed returns directly in the browser. It is free and requires no email address or account.
FSPR registration and FMA licensing are not the same thing
New Zealand makes an important distinction between being registered as a financial service provider and actually holding the licence required for a regulated market service. For retail derivatives, the useful check is the exact legal entity and its FMA derivatives-issuer status.
1. Check the FMA licensed-provider record
The FMA’s licensed-provider directory currently lists Plus500AU Pty Ltd, FSP486026, as a licensed derivatives issuer. Search the exact legal entity rather than relying on the trading brand alone.
2. Treat the FSPR as a register, not an endorsement
FSPR registration is not equivalent to licensing and does not by itself mean a provider is monitored or supervised by the FMA. Check the service registered and whether a separate FMA licence is required.
3. Check current warnings before sending money
If a provider relies heavily on a New Zealand registration claim, contacts you unexpectedly or gives unclear information about its licence, check the FMA warning library before funding the account.
Important note for New Zealand residents
For a New Zealand financial-provider route, verify the exact legal entity and the licence relevant to the service. Registration on the FSPR is not the same as being licensed or regulated by the FMA.
Plus500 New Zealand’s current warning: CFDs are high-risk, leveraged products and can result in the loss of your entire capital.
Prop-firm evaluations can result in lost fees, and simulated account sizes are not cash owned by the trader. The GradTraders £200 Nikkei 225 Challenge also uses simulated funds, with its results documented through the livestream archive and Matthew Jackson Trading Record; that record is not audited live-money performance. GradTraders provides general education and research, not personal financial, investment, tax or legal advice.

Japan stays on JST throughout the year, while New Zealand uses daylight saving time. The same Tokyo open therefore appears one hour later on the New Zealand clock during NZDT.

Which prop firm is the strongest first comparison?
FTMO. It offers 1-Step and 2-Step simulated evaluations, Free Trials and multiple platform choices, and New Zealand is not on its current restricted-country list.

TraderSync records entries, exits, screenshots, setups and recurring mistakes so a trader can review process and consistency from evidence rather than memory.
