GradTraders Broker Review

Saxo Review 2026: Is It A Good Broker For Serious Traders And Investors?

Saxo is a premium multi-asset platform rather than a narrow forex or CFD broker. Its 8.6/10 GradTraders Rating reflects broad global-market access, SaxoTrader, SaxoInvestor, TradingView, advanced order tools, research, a flexible UK ISA and a dedicated SIPP route—balanced against tiered pricing, product-specific costs, no cTrader or MetaTrader route and no current UK financial spread-betting account.

Quick Verdict: Saxo Earns 8.6/10

Saxo is a strong premium platform for serious traders and investors who want conventional investments and complex trading products inside one polished ecosystem. SaxoTrader supports the wider product range and active-trading tools, while SaxoInvestor provides a simpler route for long-term portfolio building.

TradingView connectivity, global stocks and ETFs, bonds, funds, options, futures, forex, CFDs, a flexible ISA and a dedicated SIPP route give Saxo considerably more depth than a CFD-only app.

The main limitation is specialist fit. Saxo is not the cheapest or simplest route for every user, and traders who require cTrader, MetaTrader, raw-spread accounts or UK financial spread betting should compare other brokers first.

Why Saxo Scores 8.6/10

The 8.6/10 score is the authoritative Saxo rating in the GradTraders broker review bank. It considers regulation, platform quality, pricing, execution tools, market coverage, investment products, tax wrappers, support and practical suitability. It is an editorially weighted rating rather than a simple mathematical average.

Overall GradTraders Rating8.6/10A premium multi-asset platform with excellent breadth and usability, but less pricing and infrastructure depth than Interactive Brokers.

Comparison context: Saxo sits below Interactive Brokers at 8.9/10 because IBKR provides the stronger professional brokerage engine, pricing depth and API infrastructure. Saxo remains easier to navigate and more polished for many serious investors.

Where Saxo Fits In The GradTraders Broker Bank

Saxo occupies the premium serious multi-asset category alongside Interactive Brokers. It sits apart from raw-spread CFD specialists such as IC Markets, Pepperstone and FP Markets, and from simpler mainstream apps such as XTB and eToro.

The closest complete comparison is Interactive Brokers. IBKR wins overall for professional infrastructure, options and futures depth, APIs and cost control. Saxo’s advantage is a more coherent premium experience across active trading, investing, research and UK tax wrappers.

Saxo also competes with IG and CMC Markets for sophisticated UK users. Those brokers are stronger for spread betting; Saxo is stronger for conventional investments, listed products and a broader portfolio environment.

What Is Saxo?

Saxo is a global trading and investment group founded in Denmark in 1992. The UK business operates through Saxo Capital Markets UK Ltd, while the wider group is built around the licensed Danish Saxo Bank structure.

The account is designed to combine conventional investing and active trading. Users can access global securities, funds, bonds, listed derivatives, forex and CFDs through the same broader platform ecosystem.

Saxo is therefore better understood as a premium multi-asset investment and trading platform than as a conventional retail forex broker.

Saxo Ownership And Leadership In 2026

J. Safra Sarasin Group completed its acquisition of approximately 71% of Saxo Bank on 2 March 2026 after the required regulatory approvals. Founder Kim Fournais retained approximately 28% and moved from chief executive to chairman of the Board of Directors.

Daniel Belfer became Saxo Bank CEO at completion. Saxo’s April 2026 results reported 1.523 million clients and EUR 133 billion of client assets at the end of 2025.

This ownership change does not replace the account-level regulatory analysis. UK clients still contract through Saxo Capital Markets UK Ltd, which remains the relevant FCA-authorised UK entity.

My View As A Trader

I have not used Saxo as my primary live trading or investment account, so this review is research-led. I am not claiming first-hand execution, support or withdrawal evidence equivalent to the experience disclosed in the IC Markets, CMC Markets, IG and Plus500 reviews.

Saxo would not be my first choice for a small-account index challenge built around cTrader, high leverage or raw-spread pricing. That workflow is better served by a specialist active-trader broker.

For a larger account combining global investments, research, listed options, futures, bonds and tax wrappers, Saxo becomes substantially more relevant. It solves a broader wealth-and-trading problem than a simple CFD account.

Trading Platforms: SaxoTrader, SaxoInvestor, TradingView And APIs

SaxoTrader is the advanced platform route, available through web, mobile and desktop applications. It provides the wider product set, margin trading, advanced tickets, charts and complex trading tools.

SaxoInvestor is the simpler long-term investing platform. It focuses on portfolio management and conventional products while remaining connected to the same Saxo account.

TradingView integration supports forex, CFDs, futures and stocks, but not every Saxo instrument is available through TradingView. Automated TradingView strategies cannot place Saxo trades by default. Saxo also provides OpenAPI and connectivity routes for more technical workflows.

Advanced

SaxoTrader

Full product access, complex orders, margin trading, research and multi-screen workflows.

Investing

SaxoInvestor

A cleaner route for stocks, ETFs, funds, bonds and portfolio management.

Connectivity Limits

TradingView & APIs

Useful third-party access, but not every Saxo product or automated strategy is supported.

Account Tiers, Demo Access, Currencies And Service

Saxo currently uses Classic, Platinum and VIP pricing tiers. Classic is the standard entry level, while Platinum can be reached through qualifying trading volume or funding of £200,000 and VIP through volume or funding of £1 million.

Higher tiers reduce selected commissions and improve service. Saxo Elite is a separate high-value proposition aimed at clients with more than £5 million in assets or £200 million in annual trading volume.

There is no ordinary-account minimum funding requirement. Saxo supports deposits in 18 currencies, while currency sub-accounts are currently reserved for Platinum and VIP clients.

A demo account and investment simulator are available. Paper results cannot reproduce live liquidity, financing, slippage, assignment or emotional decision-making.

Account verdict: Saxo is accessible at entry level, but its strongest pricing and service advantages increasingly favour larger or more active accounts.

Stocks, ETFs, Funds, Bonds, Options, Futures And Global Markets

Saxo’s product range is the main reason it deserves a separate premium review. Current UK account material advertises access to more than 71,000 instruments across asset classes.

Current product pages list 7,400 ETFs and ETNs, more than 5,200 government and corporate bonds, thousands of stocks and a broad mutual-fund range. The wider account also covers listed options, futures, forex, forex options, CFDs and commodities.

This breadth supports long-term portfolio construction, active trading, hedging and listed derivatives. It also increases the need to understand settlement, exercise, expiry, margin and product-specific fees.

Product-risk rule: direct securities, funds, bonds, ETNs, listed options, futures, forex and CFDs have different ownership, credit, margin, expiry and protection structures. Do not treat Saxo’s wide product menu as one uniform investment.

Execution, Orders, Margin, Research And Active-Trader Fit

SaxoTrader provides advanced order tickets, one-click trading, technical tools, multi-screen layouts and portfolio information. The desktop application adds algorithmic orders, depth tools, margin alerts and bulk order management.

Listed options, futures, forex and CFD users can access product-specific order and margin tools. Portfolio Based Margin is available to qualifying professional clients, while ordinary retail margin remains subject to regulatory and Saxo requirements.

Execution quality depends on product, venue, liquidity, order instructions and account route. Saxo’s polished interface does not remove the need to check the order ticket, trading conditions and estimated margin before transmission.

Saxo currently reports an average market-order execution speed of 0.012 seconds based on July 2026 statistics. This is broker-published execution data rather than a GradTraders live-account measurement, and individual fills can differ by product, venue and market conditions.

Saxo can suit active traders who value research, listed derivatives and broader markets. It is less compelling for users whose only requirement is a raw-spread CFD account on cTrader or MetaTrader.

Execution rule: review the instrument type, exchange or OTC route, order type, time in force, financing and margin impact before placing a complex or leveraged trade.

Commissions, Currency Conversion, Custody And Account Costs

Saxo uses product- and tier-specific pricing. Current UK material lists Classic UK stock and ETF commissions at 0.08%, bonds at 0.2% and stock options at $2 per contract, with lower headline rates at Platinum and VIP levels.

Platinum currently lists UK stocks and ETFs at 0.05%, bonds at 0.1% and stock options at $1. VIP lists 0.03%, 0.05% and $0.75 respectively.

Currency conversion, custody, exchange, financing, manual-order and carrying costs can still apply. Overnight futures, CFD-futures and short listed-option positions can attract tier-dependent carrying charges.

Leveraged positions add spread, commission and financing considerations. Listed products can also carry exchange and market-data costs.

Cost verdict: Saxo can be competitive, especially for larger or active accounts, but it should never be described through one headline commission. Compare the complete cost of the actual products and account tier.

Forex, CFDs, TradingView And UK Spread-Betting Fit

Saxo offers forex, forex options and CFD trading alongside conventional investments and listed derivatives. This gives experienced users a broader toolkit than a pure stockbroker, but the pricing and margin structure differs by product.

TradingView can be used for forex, supported CFDs, futures and stocks. Some indices and CFDs are unavailable through the integration, and automation is not enabled by default.

Saxo does not currently present a UK financial spread-betting account. Futures-spread tools and options combinations are different products and do not create the same UK tax treatment.

For a UK trader focused mainly on spread betting, Pepperstone, IG, CMC Markets, Capital.com, OANDA or FOREX.com are more direct comparisons. Saxo is stronger when leveraged trading sits beside conventional investments and listed products.

Forex and CFD verdict: Saxo is credible for serious multi-asset users, but it is not the natural first choice for a narrow cTrader, MetaTrader or spread-betting workflow.

Funding, Portfolio Transfers, Withdrawals And Reliability

Saxo supports bank-transfer funding and portfolio transfers through the account area. Existing stocks can be transferred after the account is opened, subject to eligibility, settlement and custody rules.

No ordinary-account minimum funding requirement applies. Saxo accepts deposits in multiple currencies, although available sub-accounts depend on account tier and country.

Withdrawals should be made to a verified account in the client’s own name. Transfer, custody, settlement and conversion costs should be checked before moving a large portfolio.

GradTraders has not independently tested Saxo funding, support, transfers or withdrawals through a live account. The reliability assessment therefore remains research-led and based on official procedures, regulation and institutional scale.

Transfer rule: verify whether every security can be transferred in specie, whether fractional positions are supported and whether the old or new provider charges transfer or exit fees.

Flexible ISA, SIPP, Regulation And Client Protection

Saxo Capital Markets UK Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under firm reference number 551422. Saxo states that UK client money and assets are held in segregated trust and custody accounts under FCA rules.

The Saxo flexible stocks-and-shares ISA provides direct market access to more than 25 exchanges and more than 23,000 eligible instruments, including stocks, bonds, ETFs and funds. Tax rules and eligibility depend on individual circumstances.

Saxo’s SIPP route uses external pension trustees and administrators. The trustee handles the pension administration, while Saxo provides the investment platform. Trustee fees, product eligibility and pension rules must be checked separately.

Regulation and segregation reduce some institutional risks, but they do not protect users from market losses, derivative losses, currency moves, bond defaults or poor portfolio decisions.

Protection verdict: Saxo provides a credible regulated UK structure with useful tax wrappers. Product and wrapper protection should still be checked at account level rather than assumed from the brand.

Final Verdict: Saxo Earns 8.6/10

Saxo is a strong premium multi-asset broker for serious traders and investors. SaxoTrader, SaxoInvestor, TradingView, research, global investments, listed derivatives, a flexible ISA and a SIPP route justify its high position.

The main compromise is pricing and workflow complexity. Traders who want cTrader, MetaTrader, raw-spread accounts or UK spread betting should compare more specialised brokers first.

The 8.6/10 rating therefore reflects a polished and credible platform that sits below Interactive Brokers for professional infrastructure but above many mainstream apps for genuine multi-asset depth.

GradTraders verdict: choose Saxo when a premium trading-and-investing ecosystem matters. Choose a specialist active-trader broker when platform portability and raw pricing matter more.
