GradTraders Broker Data Layer 1

Broker Platforms, Trading Tools, Demo Accounts and Mobile Apps Compared

This is the deeper platform layer beneath the GradTraders 24-broker comparison table. The public table keeps platform coverage simple. This page goes further by mapping platform routes, trading tools, demo accounts, demo conditions, mobile app notes and platform reliability caveats from the GradTraders master broker bank.

Quick Verdict

For broad active-trader platform choice, the strongest names in the GradTraders master bank are IC Markets, Pepperstone, FP Markets and FxPro. They combine several of the platform routes active traders actually search for, including cTrader, MT4, MT5 and TradingView in varying forms.

IG, CMC Markets, Saxo and Interactive Brokers look stronger when the question changes from third-party CFD platforms to mature proprietary platforms, professional tools, market depth or multi-asset access. Plus500, eToro and XTB are more app-led or proprietary-platform choices rather than portable active-trader platform stacks.

Important: platform access can change by country, account entity and product type. A broker may advertise a platform globally without offering that exact route to every UK, EU, Australian, offshore or US client.

Master Bank Snapshot

These figures are drawn from the current GradTraders broker master bank. They are not a substitute for checking the broker’s latest account-opening page, but they show the depth behind the public comparison table.

24 Brokers mapped

Each broker is tracked against platform route, demo access, mobile/app notes and practical GradTraders suitability.

18 MT4 routes logged

MT4 remains widely supported, especially across CFD, forex and global MetaTrader-led brokers.

14 MT5 routes logged

MT5 is strongest among active CFD brokers, global MetaTrader brokers and strategy-testing users.

4 cTrader routes logged

cTrader is much less common than MT4/MT5, which is why brokers offering it deserve closer attention.

Why This Page Exists

The main GradTraders broker comparison table cannot carry every platform-related data point without becoming unreadable. This page gives that information a proper home.

Platform Route

Does the broker offer cTrader, MT4, MT5, TradingView, a proprietary platform, API access, copy trading or professional software?

Platform Stack

Demo And Practice Access

Is a demo account available, and is it unlimited, time-limited, inactivity-limited or tied to a specific platform?

Demo Conditions

Mobile And Reliability Notes

Does the broker rely on its own app, third-party mobile platforms or professional terminals, and where do we still need direct testing?

Practical Use

Platform Archetypes In The Broker Bank

Broad Active-Trader Platform Stacks

IC Markets, Pepperstone, FP Markets and FxPro are the clearest platform-depth names because they give traders multiple third-party routes rather than forcing everything through one proprietary interface.

IC Markets Pepperstone FP Markets FxPro

Proprietary And Professional Platform Depth

IG, CMC Markets, Saxo and Interactive Brokers are not judged purely by cTrader or MetaTrader availability. Their strength is broader proprietary software, market access, research, professional tools or exchange connectivity.

IG CMC Markets Saxo Interactive Brokers

Simple, App-Led Or Social Platform Routes

Plus500, eToro and XTB may be useful for some traders, but they are not the same kind of proposition as a multi-platform active-trader broker. Their appeal is more about simplicity, proprietary workflow or social/copy features.

Plus500 eToro XTB

Global MetaTrader-Led Routes

Tickmill, Exness, XM, HFM, AvaTrade and Vantage are important for global MetaTrader and CFD search coverage, but UK suitability must still be judged separately from global platform availability.

Tickmill Exness XM HFM Vantage

Broker Platform, Demo And Mobile-App Data

This table is intentionally deeper than the public master table. It includes the platform fields that were too detailed to squeeze into the main comparison view.

Broker Platforms & Tools Demo Account Mobile App / Web View Reliability / Caveat Best Fit GradTraders Platform View
IC Markets
MT4MT5cTraderTradingViewDemo
MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView Yes – demo/platform practice route available, but duration and exact conditions need entity-level confirmation.
To confirm by entity/platform.
Strong platform ecosystem rather than one proprietary app score: MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView access support mobile/web trading. No major reliability conclusion made from this pass. Needs user testing and public complaint scan before final ranking. Active traders, scalpers, index traders, cTrader users, TradingView users and traders prioritising low costs and margin flexibility. Strong practical support footprint for active traders and strong public service sentiment, but UK traders must understand the non-UK entity/protection trade-off before funding.
Pepperstone
ProprietaryMT4MT5cTraderTradingViewDemo
Pepperstone platform, MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView Yes – demo accounts available; exact duration/conditions should be checked by platform/entity.
To confirm by platform/entity.
Strong platform access: Pepperstone platform plus MT4/MT5/cTrader/TradingView from Part 1; app-specific rating not scored yet. No major reliability conclusion made from this pass. Needs app-store/public complaint scan for a final score. UK active traders who want FCA regulation, spread betting, cTrader and TradingView in one place. One of the strongest practical-use profiles in Batch 1 because it combines UK route, spread betting, broad platforms, visible support hours and strong public support sentiment.
FP Markets
MT4MT5cTraderTradingViewIressDemo
MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView Yes – demo account/platform guides available; exact duration/conditions need confirmation.
To confirm by platform/entity.
Strong platform set from Part 1: MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView. App-specific public/app-store score not included yet. No major reliability conclusion made from this pass. Needs public complaint/app-store scan. Algorithmic traders, cTrader users, TradingView users and traders wanting strong platform choice with raw pricing. Strong support/funding profile for platform-led traders, but the practical verdict must keep the entity distinction clear and not treat positive support reviews as a substitute for UK regulation.
IG
ProprietaryMT4MT5ProRealTimeL2 DealerTradingViewDemo
IG platform, mobile app, MT4, MT5, ProRealTime, L2 Dealer, TradingView Yes. IG UK demo account page offers a free demo with GBP £10,000 virtual funds and an MT4 demo option.
Demo account with £10,000 virtual funds; MT4 demo also available. Expiry/retention conditions should be checked if used in article.
Strong platform/app ecosystem from Part 1. App quality/public app-store score not separately included yet. Needs separate public complaint/app-store scan. Some public reviews mention platform/admin issues, but not enough for a reliability ranking. UK traders, spread bettors, beginners, investors and traders prioritising regulation, trust and broad market access. Very strong UK practical-use profile because of brand depth, support availability, withdrawal clarity, demo access and FSCS/client money information, though not necessarily the cheapest active-trader option.
CMC Markets
ProprietaryMT4TradingViewDemo
CMC web platform, mobile app, TradingView for CFD accounts, MT4 through separate account Yes. Official demo pages state free demo accounts are available; CMC platform demo/no-expiry details need product-specific confirmation.
Official global FAQ says Next Generation demo has no expiry date; MT4/MT5 demos initially 30 days and expire after 30 days inactivity.
Strong proprietary platform/app reputation, but app quality not independently scored. Public snippets mention good app/platform, with some feature requests. No major reliability conclusion made from this pass. Needs public complaint/app-store scan. UK spread bettors, multi-asset traders, platform users and traders who value broad market access. Strong UK practical-use profile with local support, spread betting, FSCS/client-money messaging and a mature proprietary platform. Less attractive for traders needing cTrader or offshore-style leverage.
OANDA
ProprietaryMT4MT5TradingViewDemo
OANDA platform, TradingView, MT4, MT5 for certain products Yes. OANDA UK account support and deposits/withdrawals pages link to create/demo account options.
To confirm by entity/platform.
Strong OANDA app/web/MT4/MT5 route from Part 1; app-quality score not independently added yet. No major reliability conclusion made from this pass. Needs public complaint/app-store scan. Forex traders, UK spread bettors, TradingView users, MT4 users and traders who value a long-established broker. OANDA is strong practically because of no minimum deposit, clear support channels, UK/EU/US relevance and transparent withdrawal timing, but entity separation is essential.
FOREX.com
ProprietaryMT4MT5TradingViewDemo
FOREX.com web platform, mobile apps, TradingView, MT4, MT5. Yes.
Official UK account FAQ snippet states direct FOREX.com demo accounts last 90 days after signup. Demo material references virtual funds.
Unscored. FOREX.com has web/mobile platforms, but app quality needs a dedicated app-store/user review pass. Unverified. No GradTraders direct reliability test yet. Forex traders, TradingView users, MT4/MT5 users, US traders needing a regulated US forex route. FOREX.com looks solid for regulated FX access and US/UK search relevance, but Part 2 needs direct testing for funding speed, support quality and app experience before a strong customer-service claim.
Saxo
ProprietaryTradingViewAPIDemo
SaxoTrader, SaxoInvestor, TradingView access, APIs/connectivity. Yes.
Demo account available from Saxo UK account page. Specific duration not confirmed in this pass.
Potentially strong. SaxoInvestor/SaxoTrader ecosystem is a major part of the broker proposition, but app quality needs separate app-store/user review scoring. No specific outage/reliability issue added in this batch. Needs direct platform testing or user-review sampling. Serious traders, investors, multi-asset users, options/futures/share traders and higher-value accounts. Saxo looks strong for serious, higher-value multi-asset traders and investors. Its practical weakness is that the user experience may feel more complex and tiered than a simple CFD/spread-betting broker.
Interactive Brokers
ProprietaryAPIExchange AccessDemo
Trader Workstation, IBKR Desktop, mobile, web, APIs, global exchange access. Yes, paper trading/simulated practice is available through IBKR platform environment.
Needs separate verification for current paper-trading access rules by account type.
Strong but advanced. IBKR mobile is powerful; beginner friendliness should be scored lower than platform depth. Generally institutional-grade platform ecosystem, but complexity is a practical issue. Needs separate outage/user-review pass. Serious traders, investors, futures/options traders, global market access, US traders, sophisticated multi-asset users. Interactive Brokers is excellent for serious traders and investors, but not a simple hand-holding retail CFD broker. It scores high on capability and safety depth, lower on beginner simplicity.
Capital.com
ProprietaryMT4TradingViewAPIDemo
Capital.com web/mobile platform, TradingView, MT4, API access. Yes.
Capital.com UK demo account page says virtual funds, live prices and no expiry.
Likely strong from a design/product perspective, but needs app-store/user review scoring before final rating. No specific downtime issue added. Needs direct/platform review pass. UK spread bettors, newer traders, TradingView users, mobile-first CFD traders and mainstream multi-market users. Capital.com looks strong for mainstream UK users who want a modern app, demo account, TradingView/MT4 and simple fees. It needs real-user support and withdrawal testing before being called best-in-class.
Eightcap
MT4MT5TradingViewTradeLockerDemo
UK: TradingView-focused. Global: MT4, MT5, TradingView, TradeLocker depending on entity. Yes.
Demo available; conditions and platform availability should be checked by entity/account.
Platform experience is TradingView-led in the UK. App quality should be judged through TradingView/mobile integration and direct testing. No specific downtime issue added. UK appeal is heavily dependent on TradingView integration quality. TradingView users, active CFD traders, crypto/FX/index CFD traders outside restricted jurisdictions. Eightcap is useful for the TradingView-first active-trader angle. Its practical experience score should depend on UK TradingView execution, funding reliability and support testing rather than global marketing claims.
Spreadex
ProprietaryTradingView
Spreadex web/mobile platform; TradingView integration for spread betting is available. Not confirmed in this pass. Spreadex has help/training material, but demo availability needs direct verification.
Unconfirmed.
Mobile app available on iOS/Android with account, deposit, trading, charting and withdrawal access according to FAQ. Quality needs app-store/user review pass. No specific downtime issue added. Proprietary platform focus; less platform depth than IG, CMC Markets or Pepperstone. UK spread bettors, financial spread betting specialists, traders who want a smaller UK provider rather than a global platform giant. Spreadex is one of the strongest practical UK-spread-betting entries in this batch because of the low deposit, fast-withdrawal claims and UK phone support. It needs direct demo/platform and customer-service testing before a final top-service ranking.
XTB
ProprietaryDemo
xStation / XTB app. No current MT4, MT5 or cTrader route found for UK-style comparison. Yes.
Demo account is free, has 100,000 virtual funds and becomes inactive after 30 days; validity may be extended by contacting sales/account manager according to official demo material.
Likely strong due to xStation/XTB app focus, but app quality needs a direct app-store/user review pass before scoring. No specific downtime issue added. XTB’s proposition relies heavily on xStation reliability and usability. UK CFD traders, investors, xStation users, traders wanting stocks/ETFs alongside leveraged products. XTB looks like one of the stronger mainstream practical-use brokers in Batch 3: no minimum deposit, free funding/withdrawal messaging, 24/5 support and a strong app/education angle. The main missing proof is direct support and withdrawal testing.
Plus500
ProprietaryDemo
Plus500 proprietary web/mobile platform. No MT4, MT5, cTrader or TradingView trading route found. Yes.
Unlimited demo account. Plus500 says there is no time limit and virtual funds can be replenished automatically when balance falls to a low level.
Likely strong for simplicity and mainstream mobile use, but app quality needs a separate app-store/user review pass. No specific downtime issue added. The platform is simple/proprietary rather than advanced multi-platform. Beginners comparing mainstream CFD providers, mobile-first traders, traders who want a simple proprietary platform. Plus500 is strong for simple mobile CFD access and demo use, but weak for advanced traders. Its experience score should depend on whether the user wants simplicity or platform depth.
eToro
ProprietaryCopy/SocialDemo
eToro web/mobile platform, CopyTrader, social investing tools. No MT4, MT5 or cTrader route found. Yes.
Free virtual portfolio credited with $100,000 according to eToro demo/platform pages.
Likely strong for social/copy trading and beginner usability, but app quality needs app-store/user review scoring. No specific outage issue added. Practical experience depends on social/copy features as much as execution tools. Social traders, copy traders, beginner investors, crypto/stock users and traders who value community features. eToro is useful for copy trading and beginner investing questions, but it should not be ranked like an active-trader execution broker. Its support/funding experience needs careful distinction between USD and local GBP/EUR account routes.
City Index
ProprietaryMT4TradingViewDemo
City Index web/mobile platform, TradingView, MT4. Yes.
City Index official demo help pages confirm demo accounts are available. Specific duration/conditions need full page confirmation.
Likely solid due to City Index web/mobile platform and TradingView/MT4 access, but app-store/user review pass needed. No specific outage issue added. Platform depth stronger than Plus500/eToro for active UK spread bettors, weaker than cTrader/raw-style brokers. UK spread bettors, forex traders, TradingView users, traders wanting a recognised UK spread betting/CFD provider. City Index is one of the stronger UK practical-use brokers because it combines spread betting, FCA regulation, support hours and TradingView/MT4 access. Funding and fee details need a cleaner official-method pass.
Trade Nation
ProprietaryMT4TradingViewDemo
TN Trader, TradingView, MT4. Yes.
Trade Nation UK demo page offers a simulated demo with 10,000 virtual funds; official pages also refer to risk-free demo accounts.
Likely solid/simple through TN Trader and mobile-optimised platform; needs app-store/user review pass. No specific outage issue added. Platform appeal is fixed spread/simple pricing plus TradingView integration. UK spread bettors, fixed-spread traders, TradingView users, traders who value simple pricing. Trade Nation is useful for UK spread betting, fixed spread messaging and TradingView integration. The biggest Part 2 gap is support/funding detail; this needs a cleaner official payment/support page pass before high-confidence ranking.
Tickmill
ProprietaryMT4MT5TradingViewDemo
MT4, MT5, TradingView, Tickmill Trader. Yes.
MT4/MT5 demo accounts available. Official FAQ says demo trading conditions are the same, but simulated environment means no slippage and price updates may differ from live accounts.
Tickmill mobile app and MetaTrader mobile access exist, but app quality needs app-store/user review pass. No specific downtime issue added. Practical appeal depends on MT4/MT5/TradingView setup and entity-specific execution. Forex traders, raw-spread users, MT4/MT5 users, TradingView users, strategy traders. Tickmill is strong for cost-focused forex/CFD traders and MetaTrader users. It is less complete for UK tax/spread-betting use and needs a better support/funding evidence pass before ranking on customer service.
Exness
ProprietaryMT4MT5Demo
MT4, MT5, Exness Terminal, Exness Trade app, MetaTrader WebTerminal, MultiTerminal. Yes.
Exness demo account page says a default MT5 demo account comes with $10,000 in virtual funds. Help material says demo accounts are subject to deletion after inactivity.
Potentially strong for global users through Exness Trade app and Exness Terminal ecosystem, but app quality needs a separate app-store/user review pass. No specific downtime issue added. Exness platform appeal is global MT4/MT5/Exness Terminal plus payment automation. International forex/CFD traders outside restricted jurisdictions who want very high leverage, MT4/MT5, low deposits and a global CFD broker. Exness is a major global broker to include for search coverage, but it is not a practical UK recommendation. It may score well for global support and payment automation, while scoring poorly for UK eligibility and UK protection.
XM
ProprietaryMT4MT5Copy/SocialDemo
MT4, MT5, XM App, XM Copy Trading. Yes.
Official account page promotes demo accounts for simulated trading. Virtual-fund amount should be checked at signup before publication.
Potentially strong; XM App is central to the proposition. App quality needs separate app-store/user review scoring. No specific downtime issue added. Platform experience depends on MT4/MT5 and XM App. Global forex/CFD traders, MT4/MT5 users, traders wanting low minimum deposit and a large international broker brand. XM belongs in the global broker bank because of brand/search volume, low minimum deposit and 24/7 live chat. The unresolved UK route means it should be presented cautiously to UK readers.
AvaTrade
ProprietaryMT4MT5OptionsCopy/SocialDemo
WebTrader, AvaTrade App, MT4, MT5, AvaOptions, AvaSocial and third-party copy trading platforms. Yes.
AvaTrade demo page says it is an unlimited demo account and provides $/€/£10,000 of virtual money for practice.
Potentially strong through AvaTrade App/AvaTradeGO and AvaOptions, but requires app-store/user review scoring. No specific downtime issue added. Practical platform strength is broad choice rather than cTrader-style execution. Traders wanting broad platform choice, MT4/MT5, options-style FX tools, copy/social trading and a multi-regulated global broker. AvaTrade is a strong practical-use candidate for platform variety, demo, education and support access. The main caution is entity complexity and the need to verify the exact UK route before positioning it as a UK-specific broker.
HFM / HotForex
ProprietaryMT4MT5Demo
MT4, MT5, HFM WebTrader, HFM App. Yes.
Demo availability identified through HFM platform/account ecosystem; exact demo balance/duration not fully scored in this pass.
Potentially strong through HFM App and platform ecosystem, but needs app-store/user review scoring. No specific downtime issue added. Practical appeal is MT5/HFM platform plus global account options. Global forex/CFD traders, MT4/MT5 users, high-leverage seekers outside restricted retail jurisdictions, and traders wanting a multi-entity broker with an FCA-regulated group route. HFM is stronger than some global brokers for GradTraders because it has an FCA-regulated UK route and clear UK contact details. It still lacks UK spread betting, so UK appeal is limited to CFD users rather than tax-free spread betting.
FxPro
ProprietaryMT4MT5cTraderTradingViewDemo
FxPro Trading Platform, TradingView, MT4, MT5, cTrader, FxPro Mobile App. Yes.
Demo accounts are available across platform ecosystem; exact duration/balance not fully scored in this pass.
Potentially strong because FxPro has its own app, TradingView, MT4, MT5 and cTrader support; needs app-store/user review pass. No specific downtime issue added. Strong practical platform breadth is a major advantage. UK traders wanting spread betting plus multi-platform choice, cTrader users, MT4/MT5 users, TradingView users and traders who want a regulated broker with strong platform breadth. FxPro is one of the strongest practical-use Batch 4 names for GradTraders because it combines UK spread betting, FCA regulation, cTrader, TradingView, MT4/MT5 and 24/5 support.
Vantage
ProprietaryMT4MT5TradingViewCopy/SocialDemo
MT4, MT5, ProTrader, TradingView, Vantage App, copy trading tools. Yes.
Demo availability appears in Vantage platform/footer links, but exact balance/duration should be checked before scoring.
Potentially strong through Vantage app, TradingView, MT4/MT5 and copy trading, but requires app-store/user review pass. No specific downtime issue added. Practical strength is broad active-trader platform coverage. TradingView users, MT4/MT5 users, active CFD traders, copy trading users and global traders who want higher leverage outside UK/EU retail limits. Vantage is useful for TradingView, MT4/MT5 and global active-CFD searches. For GradTraders, it needs clear UK-vs-global separation before being used heavily in UK-facing conversion pages.

Where the master bank says app quality or platform reliability still needs direct testing, that is a strength rather than a weakness. GradTraders would rather flag uncertainty than pretend a final reliability ranking from marketing pages alone.

Broker names with dedicated GradTraders reviews are linked internally for deeper research.

How To Read The Platform Data

Platform Availability Is Not The Same As Platform Suitability

A broker can technically offer MT4, MT5 or TradingView and still be a poor fit if the account route, pricing, leverage, market coverage or execution style does not suit the trader.

Demo Accounts Are Useful, But Not Proof

Demo accounts are useful for learning the platform, but simulated conditions can differ from live trading. That matters most for spreads, slippage, execution speed and emotional pressure.

Mobile App Quality Depends On The Trader

A simple app can be good for beginners and poor for active traders. A professional platform can be powerful but too complex for casual users. The best route depends on the job the trader needs the platform to do.

Final GradTraders View

The strongest platform brokers are not automatically the brokers with the longest platform list. The real question is whether the platform stack fits the trader’s method. IC Markets, Pepperstone, FP Markets and FxPro stand out for active traders who want third-party platform flexibility. IG, CMC Markets, Saxo and Interactive Brokers stand out when platform depth means proprietary tools, research, professional access or multi-asset capability.

This is why the deeper data layer matters. The public comparison table gives the clean answer. This page shows the working behind the answer.

Source basis: this page is based on the GradTraders v3.5 broker master bank, the public 24-broker comparison table, official broker platform/demo/help pages, GradTraders review standards and editorial judgement. Platform, demo and mobile-app availability can change by entity, account type and country.
